A summer you’ll remember
The world of Driftaway Lakehouse is full of amazing summer activities that will take you deep into the heart of Canadiana. Here are a few the hosts recommend for a perfect Georgian Bay summer.
Hiking / Biking
Royal Island and its surrounding areas are full of hiking trails that range from easy to medium in difficulty levels. You can choose from Beausoleil Island, Frying Pan Bay, Tay Shore Trail, or Awenda Provincial Park on Giant’s Tomb Island. Stay on marked trails and respect nature (pick up after yourself, please). Some parks may require permits, so have some cash on you if you run into a park ranger.
Fishing
Another good way of enjoying Georgian Bay is by throwing in a line and doing some fishing. You can take the pontoon boat (available for rent) out into the water directly in front of the lakehouse or at a spot near another island. If you want to watch experts at work, reach out to Georgian Bay Musky Charters for tour dates. A fishing licence is required whichever way you fish.
Golfing
If you want to take a break from being on the island (which you won’t), you can go to one of the mainland golf courses for a day on the links. The golf courses also have fine dining restaurants, where you can enjoy a bite after spending a day on the greens.
Beach time
We know this will be the top activity on every lakehouse resident’s mind. We get it. The good thing is that you’ll have plenty of beaches to choose from. There’s one right at your door step and many others that are easily accessible by boat. The hosts recommend the beaches at Giant’s Tomb Island, Wana Keta Beach (Beausoleil Island), or Beckwith Island.
ATV trails
ATVing in the area draws enthusiasts from far and wide. Baxter Tract Loop offers an unparalleled playground for ATV adventurers to immerse themselves in nature while experiencing the thrill of offroad exploration.
Live Music
Every Friday night from 6-9pm, groove to free tunes with Rock the Dock at the Port of Honey Harbour, a short boat ride from Royal Island. You can drop anchor and listen from the water or park at the public dock and socialize with others. Check out the summer lineup.
